The MG1 rubber bellow seal is one of the most widely used mechanical seals in the world, primarily designed for centrifugal pumps and water applications. It is a non-directional seal, meaning it works regardless of which way the shaft rotates.
The standout feature is its elastic bellows, which eliminates the need for a separate O-ring to seal against the shaft.
Key FeaturesSelf-Aligning Bellows: The rubber bellows compensates for shaft play, run-out, and misalignments. It also protects the shaft from wear since there is no dynamic O-ring sliding back and forth.
Non-Clogging: The large coil spring is open and robust, making it resistant to "gumming up" in wastewater or fluids with light solids.
Compact Design: Because of its short mounting length, it can fit into very tight seal chambers where other seals won't fit.
High Flexibility: The bellows design transmits torque (turning force) through the rubber itself, rather than through drive pins or screws.

The MG1 is the "workhorse" of the pumping world. It is most commonly found in:
Domestic Water Supply: Home booster pumps and garden pumps.
Wastewater Technology: Submersible pumps and sewage treatment.
Food & Beverage: Handling juices, dairy, and water-based liquids.
While a Teflon seal is meant for "angry" chemicals that melt everything else, the MG1 is designed for "dirty" or "vibrating" environments. It is much more resilient to physical shock and shaft movement, but it cannot handle the extreme acids that a PTFE seal can.
