Teflon (PTFE) bellow seals are specialized mechanical seals designed primarily for handling highly corrosive chemicals and acids that would destroy standard metal components. Instead of a metal spring or bellows, they utilize a flexible "bellows" shape molded from PTFE to maintain contact between the sealing faces.
Key CharacteristicsSuperior Chemical Resistance: Since the bellows are made of PTFE, they are virtually inert to most industrial chemicals, including concentrated sulfuric acid, nitric acid, and chlorine.
Non-Clogging Design: The smooth, pleated exterior of the bellows prevents solids or fibers from getting trapped, making them ideal for dirty or crystallizing fluids.
Outside-Mounted: These seals are often mounted on the outside of the pump stuffing box. This keeps the metal hardware (like bolts and set screws) isolated from the aggressive media.
Flexibility: The bellows design acts as both a secondary sealing element and a spring, compensating for shaft misalignment or thermal expansion.

You will typically find these seals in:
Chemical Pumps: Handling aggressive media where stainless steel would corrode.
Glass-lined Equipment: Where metallic contamination must be strictly avoided.
Water Treatment: Dealing with strong bleaching agents or pH adjusters.
